Kubb (pronounced koob) is a lawn game where the objective is to knock over your opponent’s wooden blocks by throwing wooden batons at them from your side of the playing field. The popular game can be described as a combination of bowling and horseshoes.
The play takes place on a small rectangular pitch. “Kubbs” are placed at both sides of the pitch, and the “king”, a wooden block – usually with a crown on top, is placed in the middle of the pitch. The objective of the game is to knock over the “kubbs” on the opposing side of the pitch and after all “kubbs” are knocked over to knock over the “king”, before the opponent does. A kubb game can last from five minutes to over an hour. The game can be played on surfaces such as grass, sand, concrete, snow and even ice.
